A
number of years back a good friend of ours, Jennifer Sammons, along with her
husband, Eric and her brother, Father Joe Vogel talked to Margaret and I about
joining them in a small group of people who would agree to meet once per month
in each other’s houses to pray the rosary together and share some fellowship.
What a great concept, and we got involved immediately. We would get together in
one person’s home, that host would lead the Rosary, we would pray for special
intentions first, then say a rosary together. We took our kids along, we prayed
a lot of rosaries, and it has really developed into a special group of people.
As a
group we have buried some spouses and family members, we have gotten together
to pray for someone in their special time of need, and we are a prayerful
support group for each other. After we pray, there is always a time for social
exchange and a lot of good food, a few beers, and some fun. But what a way to
develop further our Catholic Faith with each other. What an incredible way to
teach each other and our children how important it is to pray to Jesus’ Mother,
Mary for our help and support. I know that they have since started some other
rosary groups at St. Katherine Drexel Parish. We need to get more of these
groups going with young people of a similar age involved with each other. This
is exactly the best means we can have of getting each other together to share
our rich heritage as a Catholic people.
Those
of you in our rosary group, and you all know who you are – Margaret and I
cannot thank you enough for all of your thoughts and prayers through all of
this and through the time when Margaret lost her mother, etc. We would get
texts that you were praying together for us, having a Mass said for us, and
many texts and calls. Know that you all mean a lot, and that we will continue
to accept your prayers and blessings. I say again, the peace I feel with all of
this is so very incredible, and I know it is because Mother Mary has been
hearing your prayers. You are the best.
